Transportation Guide
Access Guide: New Chitose Airport (CTS) to Sapporo Station
The JR Rapid Airport Train is the fastest and most convenient way to get from New Chitose Airport to central Sapporo.
1. Arrival to JR Station
From the international arrivals lobby to the JR station, you’ll need to walk a short distance.
- Location: The JR Train Station is located on the B1F (Basement) of the Domestic Terminal.
- How to get there:
- After exiting the International Arrivals Lobby (2F), follow the “JR Train” signs along the connecting path.
- Take the moving walkways to the domestic terminal (about a 5- to 10-minute walk).
- Upon arriving at the domestic terminal, please take the escalator down to B1F.
2. Buying Tickets & “u-Seat”
To avoid crowds and ensure you get a seat, we strongly recommend using u-Seat (reserved seating).
- Standard Fare: Approx. 1,230 JPY (Standing or non-reserved seating).
- Recommendation: The “u-Seat” (Reserved Seat)
- Why: Regular cars can get extremely crowded. We recommend purchasing a “u-seat” ticket for an additional fee (840 JPY), which guarantees spacious seating and luggage storage.
- How to buy: You can select “Reserved Seat” at the ticket machine or purchase it at the Midori-no-madoguchi (JR Ticket Counter).
- IC Cards (Kitaca, Suica, Pasmo):
- If you have an IC card, simply tap it on the automatic ticket gate to board (when using u-seat, you must purchase an additional ticket at the ticket machine on the platform).
3. Boarding the Train
- Train Name: Look for “Rapid Airport” (快速エアポート).
- Frequency: Runs approximately every 12 minutes during the day.
- Direction: All trains from the airport head towards Sapporo and Otaru. You cannot go the wrong way!
- Duration: Approx. 37–40 minutes to Sapporo Station.
4. Arrival at Sapporo Station
Sapporo Station has a “West Gate” and an “East Gate.”
- Subway Connection: For transfers to the Namboku Line or Toho Line, the West Gate is convenient.
- Taxi: There are taxi stands at both the North Exit and South Exit.
Tips for a Smooth Ride
- Free Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is available on board the JR Rapid Airport train (except on some cars).
- Alternative (Limousine Bus): If you have two or more large suitcases, or if your hotel is in the Susukino area, the Airport Limousine Bus may be easier as it requires no transfers (travel time: approximately 70–80 minutes).
Access Guide: Sapporo Station to Hokkaido University (Hokudai)

- Caution: If you exit through the South Exit, you will end up in the downtown area. Be sure to exit through the North Exit.
